CAF hands Morocco Senegal’s AFCON victory

Despite a clear victory for Senegal - including scoring TWO goals during the final, Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) appear intent on handing the trophy and victory to Morocco, and undermining African Football.

The inconsistencies in the Final were clear, for the world to see, including disallowing Senegal's first goal, awarding a weak penalty to Morocco, and disallowing VAR. This doesn't include some of the activity in the lead up to the match, and regardless, Senegal won 1-0.

The question is why was this apparent 'forfeiture' decision not made at the match? The referee did not end the game at the time, and whilst 'some' members of the Senegalese team left the 'pitch' and not the 'ground' as the CAF articles they are relying on state.

CAF subsequently fined both teams and Football Federations for the conduct at the final, as well as issuing match bans. The question is, why was this decision to overturn the result not taken when these penalties were applied?

Morocco decided to appeal the decision - notably after delaying and subsequently postponing WAFCON. A number of their fines have been overturned or reduced on appeal - notably Ismaël Saibari of Morocco National Team has had his reduced from five to two official CAF matches, of which one (1) match is suspended, and his $100,000 fine set aside.

The flagrant favouritism Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) has shown Morocco has allowed it to monopolise Africa's major tournaments - hosting two WAFCON's in a row (the 2026 tournament would have been the third); hosting two CAF Awards and then the most recent Men's AFCON. The argument of infrastructure does not stand - yes Morocco's infrastructure is amazing, but AFCON has been hosted all over the continent since 1957 AND was last hosted by Morocco in 1988!

Senegal's has stated it will rightfully appeal this decision at Court of Arbitration for Sport, which has overturned a number of CAF decisions in the past. I hope the correct application of CAF's articles will be applied, allegations of corruption investigated and Senegal's win reinstated.
